Another week and another chance wasted for Tottenham in the race for third with their North London rivals. Harry Redknapp’s men returned to winning ways last Sunday against Swansea but failed to build on that with a goalless draw away at Sunderland today. Spurs have enjoyed a marvellous season but their stuttering form of late has put their hopes of securing automatic passage to the Champions League group stages is in jeopardy. Overhauling their North London rivals will be tough for Redknapp who’s own future has been placed into doubt especially with England yet to appoint a successor to Fabio Capello.

This week on FFC the future of Spurs’ Croatian midfield maestro has been brought into the spotlight whilst a long-term solution to their centre back problem has been discussed.

Quote of the Week

“We were a little bit low on confidence but we showed against Swansea that we’re still there and we want to be in the top three. There’s still a long way to go but confidence is back. It’s all to do with winning. When you don’t win your games, it’s also going in your head … then you are a little bit more nervous.

“Arsenal kept on winning. They came back and I think we lost in two weeks 10 points. So it was quite hard but that’s why we had to win against Swansea. Of course, I’m confident we can finish third, although I said a few weeks ago that we’re going to stay in third place. We will see.” Rafael Van der Vaart on Spurs’ confidence boost after their win against Swansea
